Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Below I have used Camtasia in order to demonstrate and illustrate how Carol Vernallis' and Andrew Goodwin's theory has been applied within our own music video.

Our Video follows a Disjucture video structure: there is little relation between the lyrics and the visuals of our music video.



The Lyrical content of our song is largely focused on the idea of casting a 'spell' on somebody, and the theme of the music is largely around the idea of being enchanted, witches, the supernatural. Despite this, the visuals of our music video are focused on establishing our artist as a new, upcoming artists and, therefore, all hots are focused on her with a variety of different shots used - mainly mid shots and close ups - in order to effectively portray and establish Zee to her target audience.

My Ancillary Print


I did a lot of research concerned with my ancillary print in order to get a good, clear idea of what a conventional digipak and advertisement was. I found some examples from real artists that are of a similar genre to Zee.




 

  • All artists have close up shots, which allows the audience to be completely focused on the artist only. The writing is bold and simple, in order to not take attention away from the main artist their self.

  • I have chosen to design a conventional digipak modelling my own work after Rihanna's advertisement for  her LOUD album. 
  • Similarity to Rihanna I have used a medium, establishing shot of my artist - Zee - as the background image, with the artist looking directly at the camera. I have used a bold, capitalised text with the artists name and the name of the album in order to catch the audience's attention. 
I have also included a smaller picture of the front the album within the advertisement similar to Rihanna, which follows the conventional rules of a  advertisement.
