Question 4 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Audience Feedback.

This video shows all the feedback received after screening our music video in the cinema, the majority of the reviews were by our target audience - people aged between 16-24 years old. By  gaining feedback of our music video directly after the screening allows us to know straight away whether or not we have successfully reached out and connected to our target audience.

After our music had finished playing within the cinema, a large round of applause and cheering can be heard in the video provided, which was a brilliant, positive reaction to our video. Despite this initial amazing reaction, I felt it would be better to get individual reviews from random members of the audience to know what they individually really thought of the video - and the comments were also positive.
A few comments kept reoccurring frequently, which I noted - one of them being a lot of positive comments about the artist: many commented on how much energy and effort was put into the performance of the artist, and this was evidently portrayed in the end result in the music video. It was only then that I understood and learnt how important it is that the artists performs 100% or else, the audience will not feel connect to, or enjoy the music video.

Another positive comment that kept reoccurring was the amount of cuts and edits that we incorporated within our video and how frequent and on point the edits occurred. We always cut at inappropriate time, which allowed the audience to stay entertained and engrossed. As I, personally, felt that we didn't have as many base tracks as we could have had, I learnt that as long as we cut appropriately and quite frequently it didn't make too much of a difference as the audience still stayed entertained regardless.

Another comment that made a real impact and taught me the importance of technology was one that my teacher- Rebecca had commented on - as we originally had large, bold shutters featured in certain shots in our music video, she stated how she felt it would be better if we changed the shots as the shutters would distract the audience and take the overall attention away from the on-screen performance - we took on board her advice, however we had no extra footage to be able to complete replace the shots we added a filter to the shots, which lightened the look and focused the attention more on the performance with the filter placed on top rather than just the glaring shutters in the shot. I learnt from this, that the use of technology can have such a significant impact on the end product and that the use of technology can be a successful savior.

Another one of my teachers, Dan, had commented that we could have included more of a variety of shots inside and outside, as all our shots were taken outside (aside from the shots within the train station on the platform.) This was something I had thought about when filming and planning the music video so I took this criticism and constructive as I also agree we could have included indoor shots as well.

The main lesson that I learnt is that there is no such thing as too much footage, every shot counts and the more the better.

What I have learned.

  • Referring back to when I commenced research of what our target audience would expect to see within a music video of an artist from thus genre - casual costume, recognisable settings, laid-back, chilled out attitude, young youthful persona - I believe I have incorporated all these qualities with our own artist within my own music video successfully.

                                                                   Ancillary Reviews

What I have summed up from the Ancillary Feedback:
  • There is a clear and distinctive theme to the ancillary products and a clear and distinctive link between the products and the music video.
  • I was able to capture the urban theme well within my products.
  • The artists costume also led our audience to note and capture the urban, young feel of the music video and the image our artist was trying to portray.
  • In order to keep the continuity I should have tried to carry on the background of the brick wall on the advertisement and inside the digipak.
