Previous Student Work
In class we was given an activity to analyse a previous students digipak and give strengths and weaknesses.
Outside Panels |
I like this digipak as it has a clear colour scheme with colours that compliment each other (purple, black and green) that are not overpowering eachother or overwhelming to look at. The image that was chosen is clear and directly in the centre of the panel, showing that the artist it the most important and the album is about him. I like the fact that only the artists head and not his body is on the cover. Nothing is in the background and there are no props or anything to distract you from the the main image. It has a nice contrast with the opaque background. The back panel is like a collage of all the colours and it creates a nice mix. The white writing on top stands out against the other colours. The font is decent and is the same as the artists nam on the front panel which shows a connection. A font that is different is the name of the album 'I Am Electropop' which is in a techno type of design and goes with the electro pop genre.
Inside Panels |
The inside panels are simple and neat which looks professional. The graphics around the artist is visually interesting, however he is situated towards the bottom half of the panel, where as his head should have been more closer to the top to make it look more balanced. Also the track list is repeated on the inside panel which is not needed, as it shows repetition as its already on the outside. Different text should have been presented. The CD itself is too small, despite this, the connection is shown from the jim jam colour pattern (from the back panel) on the CD.
You can clearly see a visual connection between the digipak and the advertisement, in terms of the colour scheme and the fact that the CD cover is presented on the advert as well. The thing that i don't like is the choice of font for the text on the left hand side, i feel it looks a bit childish and a better font that relates to the genre could have been used.
