Research: Review of Favourite Previous Student Video

  • The intended audience is teenagers.
  • The genre is Dub-step.
  • There is no narrative structure or story line. Which results in the relation between the video and song being disjuncture, as there was little connection between the lyric and video.
  • There was a variety of media language such as slow motion, base tracks, repeated shots and obvious edits.
  • In terms representation, there was dismembering of the singers body for e.g. her eyes, which intensifies the video.
  • There mark was 40/40.
I felt that this music video was amazing, in terms of the media language as the group had added loads of effects for e.g. the earthquake effect which shakes the camera. They had their edits in mind before filming and they knew what they wanted, which resulted in a well structured, planned music video. The only criticism i would give would be that the camera was static for too long when the dancers where on camera. It was just a straight on, stand still shot, however if they moved the camera around a bit and showed different angles and shot types, it would of worked more effectively.
